I thought the biographical bits were interesting but perhaps more longwinded than they needed to be.

The Black Freighter was very clever, I thought. It underscores the plot in so many ways. Moore explains how in this interview (which, for anyone who hasn't read the book, contains a lot of spoilers): http://www.blather.net/articles/amoore/watchmen3.html

I'm looking forward to the movie but I've no idea how they're going to show Dr Manhattan experiencing past, present and future simultaneously. But I suppose the comic book functions almost as a storyboard so there must be a way.

That's pretty much spot on. I'm just reading this again after 20 years to take some of the frustration out of waiting for this movie. Did you like the little inserts of biographies etc? Some of them, like 'Under the Hood' worked really well I thought but all that stuff about owls? Maybe I'll get it this time round but as a younger reader I remember skipping those bits. Maybe I'll understand the point of the Black Freighter too!
