Asking us to review

We very occasionally get asked by publishers or authors if we'd like to review a book. Normally the answer to that will be yes, provided you're willing to send one of us a review copy. Of course, you can't expect any special treatment just because you've asked us to review your book.

You may also want to read a few reviews from the various contributors to see who might be most interested in the book you're representing - you're more likely to get a favourable review if you send it to someone who likes the genre.

If you would like us to review a book, please leave a comment here and we'll get in touch when we get a chance.

Using our content

You are free to use our content in any way you see fit, except for commercial purposes. If you do use our work, please make sure you credit us and link back to our site.

In the unlikely event that you would like to use our work in a commercial setting, please give us some details in the comments and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Writing on 26 Books

At the moment, contributors to 26 Books are invited, and everyone knows at least one of the other members. We don't have any specific plans to increase the number of contributors, but we certainly wouldn't rule it out. If you'd particularly like to join us, please let us know in the comments. It would help if you'd link to some reviews or other writing you've done to help us decide if you'd fit in.

  1. Frances Botham,

    Hello,
I am the author of Mary Lamb Enters the World of Maze. Fantasy novel about a six-year-old girl who has an extraordinary gift of communication with all creatures not human. This opens the opportunity for her to travel to an unbelievable world beneath the surface of the earth, meet a new civilization and unique environment. She also gets into a lot of trouble along the way.
Would greatly appreciate it if you would read and review. I can send you an electronic copy in the form of a PDF file at your request.
    Look forward to your comments.
    Frances Botham.

  2. Dear Reviewer;
I authored The i Tetralogy, a historical novel on the Holocaust, as well as the more recent Down to a Sunless Sea,” a collection of short stories. I can forward a reviewer’s copy for either of the two books. Google and Yahoo have many pages on both books.
    Kind regards,
    Matt Freese

  3. Hello Cathy, Deborah or Zoe

I am a first-time (self-published, Vancouver-based) author, who has released Frog or Prince? The smart girl’s guide to boyfriends. I was wondering if you would review Frog or Prince? If you send me your address I will mail you a review copy. I started writing Frog or Prince? shortly after I saw my daughter holding the hand of a Frog, whom she thought was the guy of her dreams.

    Here’s the Book’s Description
Every girl dreams of living happily ever after with her Prince—but how do you tell a Prince from a Frog? This book follows Natalie, Meghan, Ella and Elizabeth through their relationships, as they gain the skills to determine if the guy they’re with is the right guy for them. As the girls’ stories unfold, we follow along as they start to recognize and reject Frogs, and/or recognize, accept and build a relationship with their Prince. Meghan falls in love with Jordan and uses the Prince/Frog tool to get herself out of a Frog trap. Ella begins to trust her instincts and kicks her guy to the curb. Natalie breaks the cycle of moving from one bad relationship to another. Elizabeth learns to recognize a Prince. By the end of the book each girl feels empowered by her experiences, both good and bad, to get on with building a better relationship with any guy and (of course that includes) dumping a Frog sooner rather than later.

Frog or Prince? shows a woman how to identify her needs and how to make good choices to get her needs met. It gives her information and practical tools to differentiate between a Frog and a Prince. By showing her how to set a bar, use the Frog/Prince List, get out of a Frog trap, and cope with lovesickness, this book is an indispensable guide for any woman who wants to develop the skills to live a beautiful life and to experience the fairy tale that is possible.

  4. Hi there,

We’ve developed a fun books tool we thought you’d like to take a look.

It basically lets you search a massive archive of the world’s most famous books and learn a bunch of cool things about them and their authors, like the fact that:

-Shakespeare’s vocabulary was about 24,000 words

-Jules Verne’s longest word was ‘pectinibranchidae’ (It’s a type of mollusc.)

-The book which used Jesus second most often was Ulysses

Anyway. Take a look, and let us know what you think.

    Regards,

  6. Dear 26 Books and friends: I am writing to ask if you would consider reviewing my new book of short stories, “The Blonde on the Train.” I would be happy to send you a copy if you’re interested. Here’s a brief description: Some of the characters in The Blonde on the Train are gay, some are Jewish, and all trying to figure out how best to live their lives in an anxious time. Confronted with illness, or the paranormal, or trying to fight off mysterious attacks on their computers, or simply remembering to honor the fact that they are still members of the Woodstock Nation, what they have in common is that they keep on keeping on, because that’s what people do.

If some additional info about me would help, I am the author of a previous collection of short stories and four books of poetry, among other works. I have been nominated for a National Book Award and received an NEA grant, and received other recognitions for my work. More details are on my web site, http://www.eleanorlerman.com. A web site devoted to “The Blonde” will be available in a few days at http://www.blondeonthetrain.com

    Thanks very much.

  7. When Pacino’s Hot, I’m Hot is a collection of short stories and essays by a writer, Robert Levin, who has been praised, quoted and discussed by Norman Mailer and Nat Hentoff, among others. He has, we think, a distinct voice, interesting world view and truly unique comic bent and we thought you might want to consider reviewing this distillation of his recent work which is now in paperback.

    Thank you.

  9. Hi,

My name is Chris Tusa, and I’m a writer from New Orleans. My debut
novel, Dirty Little Angels, is now available for pre-order from
Amazon.com, and I am writing because I was hoping you might be willing
to review it. If you’re interested, I’d be more than willing to send you an e-book version (or a physical copy) by e-mail or mail. Just let me
know. I’ve included a summary of the novel below:

    Dirty Little Angels
Set in the slums of New Orleans, among clusters of crack houses and
abandoned buildings, Dirty Little Angels is the story of sixteen year
old Hailey Trosclair. When the Trosclair family suffers a string of
financial hardships and a miscarriage, Hailey finds herself looking to
God to save her family. When her prayers go unanswered, Hailey puts her
faith in Moses Watkins, a failed preacher and ex-con. Fascinated by
Moses’s lopsided view of religion, Hailey, and her brother Cyrus, begin
spending time down at an abandoned bank that Moses plans to convert
into a drive-through church. Gradually, though, Moses’s twisted
religious beliefs become increasingly more violent, and Hailey and
Cyrus soon find themselves trapped in a world of danger and fear from
which there may be no escape.

  10. I run a small publishing company, Full Court Press, and am interested in having our latest release (June 2009), BLACKBIRD RISING: A novel of the American Spirit reviewed. I’d be happy to send along an Advanced Reader Copy if requested. To learn more about the book, please visit fcpress.us. Thanks!

  11. Hello! Would 26 books be interested in receiving review copies of books from Canongate? You can check out our June-December 2009 catalogue in the Booksellers section of our website and let us know which books are on your wishlist – and we can mail them to you!

  12. Please consider reviewing first novel, Some Assembly Required, which came out with Simon & Schuster last summer. It’s set on Cape Cod and is a great summer read about a woman who moves to the Cape to start over after a broken relationship. She becomes involved with the locals, including a recovering alcoholic who has returned to reconnect with this autistic savant nephew. Together, Rose and Simon help solve a 30-year mystery over the disappearance of a teenage boy.

I’ll be happy to send you a copy of the book. I was thinking maybe Ceri might enjoy this book. Last year the Boston Globe likened my writing to Anne Tyler’s (a huge compliment.)

  15. I’m interested in sending you my novel, The Red Fog, for review. It’s a psychological horror. Please get in touch so I can get an address to send the book to. Thanks!

  16. Commander Pants has written his first novel. It’s called Whom God Would Destroy and is a book destined to start the first Judeo/Christian Fatwa. Whom God Would Destroy is everything that a great black comedy should be: sacrilegious, thought-provoking, perverted and fun

Bridget at Illiterarty.com gave it 9 out of 10 stars – a rating she rarely bestows.

We at Pantsateria would love it if you could take a look. You won’t be disappointed (unless of course you are…but hey, life’s like that).

    Thanks,

    Gail Downey

  18. DCS,

    Hello Reviewers!

I’m the author of the sci-fi thriller Synarchy Book 1: The Awakening.

Synarchy, takes the reader into a world that is a blend of the metaphysical and conspiracy, fact and fiction. It is my goal to expose my readers to a reality that will make them rethink everything they believe about their own. The story takes place six months before December 21st, 2012, a date that has stirred up much controversy. An organized crime family through their own quest to dominate the world, discovers who the real players are that control humanity, and just how thick those chains are. Simply because they can, they decide to fight back against the New World Order, and ensure that by the winter solstice humanity has a choice it was never given before.

A Journey of Books described Synarchy as “…a wild tale with tons of plot twists and delicious complexity. I like to think of it as a cross between The Godfather and Stargate. Oh yes. It is that good.”

Morbid Romantic said, “In a world where every idea has been done and redone, it’s refreshing to read something that hasn’t been done quite like this before.”

Synarchy was also named a finalist in the Best Book Awards of 2008.

I’d love to send you a copy of the book. Looking forward to hearing back from you!

  19. Elle,

We’d love to send you a galley.

Charlie Sinclair, guitar player for the Boston-based rock band Pistonhead, is having a terrible week. Charlie’s day job at Evergreen Software is being outsourced to Puerto Rico. His apartment is overrun with mice. The girl he loves is unattainable. His best friend, the lead singer of the band, is spiraling downwards into drug abuse. His apartment is full of mice and his old girlfriend wants to dig her claws into him again. His mother has a new boyfriend and the guys from his old neighborhood hate him because they think he’s successful. The band’s audiences revel in violence.

When things couldn’t get any worse, a tragedy forces Charlie to make a life-changing decision and take a bold step into the future.

This breakout novel, filled with gritty realism and dark humor, paints a picture of a rock musician’s life that is both poignant and inspiring. The concert scenes are exhilarating and the depiction of the grinding world of the assembly line is wrenching in its unblinking clarity. This is no rock-and-roll jet-set platinum-record romp; this is the real life of artists who struggle to get to the top of the local rock heap. Their limousines are subway cars and their private jets are late-night taxicabs from grungy nightclubs.

Charlie thinks he knows what it means to be successful, but his view of the world is challenged. How do you define success? The answer may surprise you.

  22. “Civilized Savages in the Mad World” is a sociopath’s journey to find enlightenment. He experiences an existential crisis and is lost for ideas except for one: to search for the meaning of life through impulsive travel. His journey of loneliness, despair, desire to discover the world and himself allows him to analyze not only what modern day society is based around but what being an individual is all about. Written in first-person to capture the nature of the man’s mind, this book will send you on mood-swinging rollercoaster which may answer a few questions of your own on what it is to be a normal human being in an era of disarray.

“Civilized Savages” can be found in the provided link. If you would like a copy please feel free to let me know through an email message.
